About me...
I am a dynamic digital content creator with a passion for communicating academic and technological research through photography, video editing, audio production, social media campaigns and graphic design.
Over the past 10 years I've developed a continuum of skills through working a variety of creative projects, ranging from playing and producing bands, producing experimental visual art, working in academia and doing graphic design for people like NHS, Barnardo's & IFRC.
I currently work at Open Lab, Newcastle University, in the School of Computing.

To do my job effectively I use a variety of technical hardware and communication software, as well as social media management tools...
My bread and butter is taking a plain Word or PowerPoint documents and making them look wonderful by using the Adobe Creative Cloud. The tools I use every day are Illustrator, InDesign Photoshop, and Lightroom. If you need a document designed, get in touch!
During lockdown I've produced remote video presentations by taking PowerPoint/Keynote slides, combining them with video using Premiere, AfterEffects, and Audition to produce slick video presentations for use online.
Alongside this I have a background audio production and sound design, so I'm adept with multiple DAW's including Ableton Live 9, Logic Pro, Cubase Nuendo, Audacity and Reaper. I'm pretty handy with guitars and keyboards, too, but that's another story for another website...
I have a great working knowledge of MixCloud, DistroKid and Spotify for Artists/Podcasters, too.
I also manage social media accounts for various projects. I do this through effective use of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I make bespoke content as well as managing social media campaigns. I've managed social media campaigns for the Newcastle Police Crime Commissioner, Newcastle University and Metro/Nexus.
While working remotely I've been able to continue to be productive by using communication tools such as OneDrive, Zoom, Slack and Mozilla Hubs. I've built a few virtual environments for online networking using Mozilla Spoke, which makes events a lot more fun and immersive than Zoom...
I've led workshops on the effective use of Google Drive for older adults, enabling us run LLARC. I am also familiar with more vanilla tools such as the Microsoft Suite, Keynote/Pages. I was responsible for getting 100 students at Newcastle University a full license to Sketch, as well as teaching them some basic graphic design skills.
On the Hardware side, I am proficient shooting photos and video using Canon 5D MKIII and Canon C100, can pick the right lenses for particular projects and deliver some nice looking photos. I've missed taking photos at events and conferences but I've been busy organising an 'age positive' photo competition for Swindon Science Festival.
I've set-up recording solutions in Edinburgh, Newcastle and Berwick Upon Tweed, and love nerding out over audio-production equipment, guitars, amplifiers, microphones, synthesisers... pretty much anything that makes a noise...
In my spare time, chances are you'll find me cooking lasagne, riding my bike, tending to my houseplants, appreciating the work of Salvador Dalí, travelling (boo covid!), listening to Frank Zappa, watching Twin Peaks or drinking coffee, a lot of coffee...
