A RIDE OF THE FUTURE

This film was produced for the Degree Show Performance of my Masters in Creative Arts Practice, Culture Lab, Newcastle University, in 2016.
It’s part of a portfolio of work that I produced to explore collage based approaches to editing, both in music and in film.
It combines elements of the Futurist manifesto (Marinetti, 1909) with archive footage taken from the West Virginia Film Archive. Conceptually the film explores the futurist notion of acceleration through looking at the demise of coal and rise of space travel in West Virginia.
I composed the soundtrack in tandem with the film, which I performed live at the degree show using an Akai MPD36, Ableton Live, and a Casio SK-5 Sampling keyboard.
The soundtrack combined elements taken from the archive footage alongside sample based hip-hop beats.
